Who We Are

The Bridge Forward Project

We serve young adults aging out of foster care or experiencing housing instability in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Many are transitioning into independent living for the first time, often without consistent family support or access to basic household resources.

Why This Work Matters

Across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, thousands of young people transition out of foster care each year as they reach adulthood. Many do so without permanent family support or the financial and material resources needed to establish a stable home.

Research consistently shows that young adults aging out of foster care face higher rates of housing instability, unemployment, and economic hardship during this transition. Early, practical support during this period can play a critical role in promoting stability and long-term success.

The Gap We’re Addressing

For many young adults, moving into their first apartment means starting from scratch. Furniture, kitchen supplies, linens, and emergency essentials are often out of reach, making an already difficult transition even more challenging.

Our Approach

We believe support should be practical, timely, and rooted in dignity. Our approach focuses on meeting immediate needs while respecting each young adult’s independence, resilience, and potential.

How We Work

Support is provided through referral partnerships with trusted agencies and community organizations that work directly with youth transitioning out of foster care or experiencing housing instability.
